Before You Apply for a CSLB License

Before the CSLB will issue your contractor license, you must have a $25,000 Contractor License Bond on file. LLC contractors also need a $100,000 LLC Employee/Worker Bond and General Liability insurance with a minimum $1M aggregate limit.

Day-1 License Activation

On the day your license is issued, you must have either a Workers' Compensation Certificate of Insurance (if you have employees) or a WC Exemption Form (if no employees). Note: C-8, C-20, C-22, C-39, and C-61/D-49 contractors cannot claim exemption even if working solo.

Ongoing Compliance

Renew your WC policy annually (carrier re-files with CSLB), renew your bond every 2 years, and renew your LLC GL policy annually. Missing any renewal can result in automatic license suspension.
